Article Icon 1Report: 30% of Students Regularly Absent

A new report found that one-third of Arizona public grade school students were regularly absent during the 2022-23 school year—double the absence rate before Covid-19.

The “Still Missing Too Much School” report shows almost 30% of first through eighth graders were chronically absent, meaning they missed more than 10% of the school year, amounting to about 18 days.

That’s down from a 34% spike in 2021-22, but still significantly higher than pre-pandemic numbers. The data shows minorities and low-income students had the highest rates of absenteeism.

Five hundred troops from New York arrived in Fort Huachuca, where they’ll be stationed to help with border security operations. Watch the report here.

The troops will primarily be tasked with logistical support, as federally deployed troops are not allowed to perform immigration-related arrests.

They’ll join 1,600 active duty U.S. Army personnel who are working various parts of the border alongside Customs and Border Patrol.

Mexico deployed the first of its 10,000 troops that were promised after President Donald Trump threatened the country with tariffs if they didn’t help secure the border. Here’s a photo of the first-arriving troops on patrol.

Article Icon 1Cardinals Featured in NFL’s Greatest Games

The Arizona Cardinals were named as one of the teams to have taken part in the NFL’s 50 greatest games since the beginning of the Super Bowl era in 1966.

A group of panelists from Sports Illustrated created the list, which mentioned the Cardinals only once for their part in Super Bowl XLIII, a game they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-23. Rewatch the highlights here.

Missing from the list was another memorable Cardinals game that featured a double Hail-Mary, which you can see here

The top-ranked NFL game was the “Ice Bowl” match between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers in 1967.  It was the coldest game ever played, at 13 degrees below zero; the Packers won 21-17. See photos.
