An Amber Alert issued for a 5-day-old boy was canceled after the infant was found safe in Mohave County and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Phoenix police said the baby was taken by his parents from a medical clinic on Saturday while he was under critical care and before he was medically cleared to leave.

The family was located soon after the alert was issued, and both parents were detained. Investigators have not said why the parents took the baby from the clinic.

Article Icon 1Nanos Faces Removal Push

Two Pima County supervisors say they may call to remove Sheriff Chris Nanos from office, citing allegations that he lied about a previous suspension as a police officer in El Paso, Texas.

Nanos’ attorney rejected the allegations, saying the dispute stems from Nanos’ misunderstanding of a question about the past disciplinary matter. A Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson declined immediate comment.

The five-member board of supervisors expects to take up Nanos’ status on Tuesday. The board is examining Nanos’ responses to its questions about his previous work history. CBS News obtained records showing Nanos was suspended multiple times in El Paso for alleged infractions, including unnecessary force and tardiness.

The controversy comes as Nanos oversees the Nancy Guthrie disappearance investigation. Supervisor Matt Heinz said the removal effort is unrelated to that case.

A Louisiana man was arrested in Arizona after allegedly poaching and selling more than 1,800 protected turtles.

Federal authorities said the animals are worth an estimated $550,000 in the Asian pet market.

Prosecutors said Albert Bazaar took the turtles between 2022 and 2023 from Florida and sold them to a San Francisco exporter, falsely labeling them as captive-bred to obtain the needed permits to export them to Taiwan.

A federal judge in Arizona ordered Bazaar detained pending further proceedings. Bazaar faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each charge.
