No one was injured when a small plane made an emergency landing on U.S. 60 near Superior on Sunday afternoon.

The single-engine Cessna 150 experienced an unspecified malfunction, landed on the highway, struck a vehicle, and came to rest in the median.

Authorities said the pilot was the only person onboard, and traffic was temporarily slowed as crews cleared the scene and the FAA investigated the cause.

The incident came weeks after another small plane safely landed on a street in Mesa near Gilbert and Main following reported engine trouble.

The U.S. Department of Justice moved to revoke the citizenship of a Phoenix-area man accused of once leading al-Qaida operations in Iraq and helping kill two Iraqi police officers in 2006.

Prosecutors allege Ali Yousif Ahmed Al-Nouri entered the U.S. in 2009 under false claims that al-Qaida attacked his family and then concealed his criminal and family history during the naturalization process.

Iraq requested his extradition in 2019.

The case is part of a nationwide DOJ effort targeting 12 people accused of hiding terrorism ties, war crimes, fraud, or other serious offenses while becoming U.S. citizens.

Article Icon 1Iran Seeks World Cup Assurances

Tucson could still serve as the home base for Iran’s national soccer team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite the Middle East conflict.

Iran’s participation was in doubt, but the country now wants to compete if the U.S., Mexico, and Canada agree to several conditions.

Iran seeks visa guarantees for players and staff tied to the IRGC, an Iranian military unit labeled a terrorist organization by the U.S. and Canada. The country also wants added security and assurances regarding recognition of its flag and anthem.

U.S. officials have not publicly approved or rejected those requests. If an agreement is reached, Iran would open World Cup play on June 15 against New Zealand in Los Angeles.
