Article Icon 1Dems Sue Over School Funding Pause

State Attorney General Kris Mayes joined 24 Democratic officials in a lawsuit after the Trump administration temporarily froze $6.8 billion in federal education funds.

The U.S. Department of Education said it wants to ensure taxpayer dollars “are spent in accordance with the president’s priorities and the department’s statutory responsibilities.”

The lawsuit claims that control of the funding rests with Congress and that the Trump administration overstepped its authority in ordering the pause.

In other federal education funding news, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the Trump administration can proceed with layoffs at the federal education department.
