Article Icon 1Trump Endorses Biggs, Too

President Trump endorsed U.S. Rep Andy Biggs, R-Gilbert, in next year’s race for Arizona governor, while maintaining his earlier support of businesswoman Karrin Taylor Robson.

Biggs is a longtime Trump supporter who has served in Congress since 2017 and in the Arizona legislature before that.

In a post, Trump called Biggs and Robson “fantastic candidates” and offered his “complete and total endorsement to both” in the race against Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs.

Trump first voiced his support for Robson last year, angering some of his biggest Arizona allies, who accused Robson of supporting liberal policies.

Arizona Republicans slammed Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs’ veto of the proposed Arizona ICE Act, a bill that would require local and state officials to assist federal immigration enforcement. Watch the report.

The bill would also require jails and prisons to comply with detainer requests

State Senate President Warren Petersen called the veto “a slap in the face to Arizonans who have suffered greatly from the consequences of an open border under the Biden administration.” Yavapai Sheriff David Rhodes said the measure aimed to streamline deportations and ban sanctuary cities.

Hobbs defended her decision, saying state and local governments shouldn’t be forced to take “marching orders” from Washington, D.C.

Article Icon 1Probe Begins into Prison Killings

State Sen. Kevin Payne launched an investigation into the state Department of Corrections after Ricky Wassenaar allegedly killed three fellow inmates at a Tucson prison on April 4. Watch.

Payne, R-Parker, sent a letter demanding reports, policy updates, and staffing details.

Payne said the killings raise questions about security lapses in state prisons. “To see something like this take place—three different murders in a 24-hour period— that’s not acceptable,” he said.

Wassenaar was previously convicted of a 2004 prison hostage situation and is the lone suspect in the April 4 deaths.
