Article Icon 1State Budget Deal Near

Gov. Katie Hobbs and Republican legislative leaders say they are closing in on a state budget deal ahead of a June 30 deadline.

Hobbs said both sides are near the finish line. Senate President Warren Petersen recently said talks are “probably 97% of the way” to a final agreement.

Neither side has revealed specific concessions made during talks, and the budget’s final price tag remains unclear.

Arizona has passed the past two state budgets before the June 30 deadline, a streak Hobbs and legislative leaders say they aim to maintain.

Article Icon 1Squatter Removal Bill Awaits Hobbs

The state legislature passed Senate Bill 1426, giving homeowners a faster legal process to remove squatters and other unlawful occupants from their properties.

The bill now awaits Hobbs’ signature or veto.

Hobbs vetoed a similar bill in 2024, citing concerns it could be used against lawful tenants. Drafters of the current bill note the legislation is explicitly limited to illegal occupants, with clear exemptions for tenants, family members, and anyone with a cohabitation agreement.

Sponsored by state Sen. Wendy Rogers, R-Flagstaff, the measure also directs the state’s courts to develop expedited procedures for resolving the cases.

Article Icon 1Hoover Dam Goes Red, White, and Blue

Hoover Dam is showing its patriotism this summer, getting a big makeover this past Memorial Day weekend in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

A huge American flag—300 feet wide, 150 feet tall, and roughly 2,000 pounds—now hangs at the dam’s base, alongside red, white, and blue lights projected across the concrete face each night. The light show runs every evening through July 4.

Arizona and Nevada leaders gathered at the dam Monday to honor fallen service members, celebrate the dam’s new look, and launch the region’s America 250 festivities.

The dam display is also a stop on the national Great American Road Trip, encouraging Americans to visit landmark sites in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.

A Note from The Arizona Flyover

We’re asking for your support. Here’s why it matters.

The Arizona Flyover will always be free. Producing it isn’t.

Two questions before you scroll past:

Do you rely on us for news without the spin?

Is fact-first journalism worth fighting for?

If yes, this one’s for you.

“Trust in the news media is at an all-time low. Americans deserve better. We’re trying to be that better.”

We live in a moment when the institutions once trusted to deliver the news have lost the public’s faith, and for good reason. Corporate media has an agenda. Legacy outlets have a bias. Trust in the press has fallen to historic lows, lower even than trust in Congress. That’s not an accident.

The Arizona Flyover was built to be different. No agenda. No spin. Just the news, clearly written, fairly covered, and delivered every morning to 100,000 readers across the state.

We’re not funded by billionaires. We’re not backed by a corporation with an angle. We’re supported by readers, and that’s exactly how we want it.

Will you chip in to help support The Arizona Flyover?

Even $10 sends us a powerful message: you believe in what we’re building, and you’re willing to support us. Giving more, $50 or $100, helps us grow our footprint, launch new editions, and deliver more of the fact-first journalism America is hungry for.
