The shooting was captured on James Eaves’ home surveillance video system, which police reviewed after finding the 51-year-old dead in his driveway early Friday, authorities said in court filings.

The Phoenix Elementary School District school board voted unanimously to close two schools and lay off 65 teachers and staff. Watch the report.

The 153-year-old school district, dealing with declining enrollment and budget shortfalls, will close Paul Laurence Dunbar School and Maie Bartlett Heard Elementary, requiring hundreds of students to change schools.

The decision followed weeks of public debate and a contentious six-hour school board meeting attended by about 100 people. The district said if no action was taken it would face other cuts of up to $12 million over the next two years.

It’s a sad day,” Superintendent Deborah Gonzalez said. “We don’t have the funding to be able to sustain them, and at the end of the day, we’ve got to provide the best resources possible to our students.”

An F-16 fighter jet completed one last flight at Luke Air Force Base on Monday, bidding a final farewell as the base transitions to F-35 aircraft. Watch the report.

The F-35’s upgraded technology improves upon several features of the F-16, including stealth capacity, Air Force leaders say.

F-16s first arrived at Luke Air Force Base in 1982, and since then have been used to train more than 20,000 pilots. The most recent graduating class to use F-16s completed its training in September.

“The F-16 has been the backbone of the Air Force for over 50 years,” said Lt. Col. Michael Ress. “Fourth generation aircraft like the F-16 will continue to be the capacity, while fifth generation aircraft like the F-35 is now the capability.”
