Article Icon 1 State Budget Detailed

State lawmakers’ $18.3 billion budget deal delivers $1.45 billion in tax cuts, including aligning Arizona’s tax code with President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.

The agreement also funds initiatives in education, water security, and job creation.

Elsewhere, the budget freezes new data center tax exemptions. It also funds 50 new state troopers for immigration enforcement and raises salaries.

Republican legislative leaders praised the agreement’s tax cuts and spending priorities, with state Senate President Warren Petersen saying, “Arizona is leading the nation once again.”

Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs said, “This bipartisan, balanced budget agreement will put Arizona first and deliver opportunity, security, and freedom to communities throughout the state.”

The state’s new budget dedicates 50 troopers to immigration enforcement and border security, with a special focus on reducing drug trafficking.

The agreement on trooper funding was announced the same day the U.S. House approved a nearly $70 billion bill to fund federal illegal immigrant enforcement efforts through the next three years, sending the measure to President Trump for his signature.

The troopers will be assigned to the state’s Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Border Patrol.

Supporters of immigration enforcement and border security praised the spending, while critics of U.S. policy on illegal immigration criticized the agreement.
