Candidates began making their final pitches to voters ahead of Tuesday’s election, with about 1.5 million Arizonans having cast early ballots, roughly half of the expected turnout.

Arizonans who have not voted can cast ballots Tuesday, when polling places are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters can also drop off mail ballots at polling places, voting centers, or drop boxes.

In Coconino County, election workers will travel by mule train to operate a polling place in the Havasupai village of Supai, then pack the ballots out Wednesday. The remote precinct has 155 registered voters.

Nationally, the Justice Department plans to send 1,000 monitors to polling sites in all 50 states, including Arizona.

Article Icon 1Floods Force Evacuations

Rising floodwaters forced evacuations in parts of the state on Sunday, with some residents along Oak Creek in Sedona trapped inside their homes.

One weather forecasting tool projected Arizona to be the wettest state in the country over the weekend, with about 2.5 trillion gallons of rain expected to fall across the state.

In Phoenix, Saturday marked only the 12th Halloween in more than a century with measurable rain in the city, with the weather forcing a ground stop at Sky Harbor International Airport on Sunday morning.

On Sunday, evacuation orders and road closures were in effect for multiple areas of the state. Meanwhile, the Verde River at Clarkdale was running well above flood stage.
