Cerreta Candy Co. in Glendale is gearing up for another Halloween of satisfying Arizona’s sweet tooth, continuing a nearly 60-year tradition.

In 1968, company founder Jim Cerreta Sr. drove from Ohio in a station wagon with his eight children and one candy machine to start the shop.

Since then, nearly every family member has worked in the factory, including grandson and current company president Tony Cerreta, who said such family-run businesses are the backbone of Arizona’s food industry.

Today, the company’s best sellers are French Mint—green on the outside, chocolate on the inside—peanut clusters, peanut butter pizzazz, and peanut butter brittle. The factory offers weekday tours.
