Article Icon 1Arizona Bids for Space Academy

Gov. Katie Hobbs formed a steering committee Friday to make Arizona’s pitch to host the new U.S. Space Academy.

President Trump signed an executive order Aug. 28 to set the academy in motion, saying the country will need to train “an entire generation of skilled service members, engineers, and civil operators.” He made the announcement at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Hobbs said the committee brings together the state’s top leaders in space science from universities, industry, local communities, and the Arizona Space Commission. The pitch will lean on Arizona’s available land, its aerospace and defense industry, and its experience supporting NASA missions.

Several other states are chasing the academy too. Trump’s order leaves the location open, tasking a federal commission with recommending how a permanent home will be picked.

Article Icon 1President Trump Headed to Bullhead City

President Trump plans to hold a rally in Bullhead City on Wednesday, Oct. 14, a week into Arizona’s early voting.

Mohave County Supervisor Rich Lettman said Trump will arrive at noon at Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport aboard the new Air Force One. Doors are expected to open at 9:30 a.m., and the Republican National Committee will post registration and parking details.

The stop is meant to boost Arizona Republicans ahead of the Nov. 3 election, with races for governor, attorney general, and U.S. House on the ballot. Trump carried Mohave County with more than 77% of the vote in 2024.

It’ll be Trump’s second trip to town. His rally at the same airport in October 2020, less than a week before Election Day, was the first known visit to Mohave County by a sitting president.

Article Icon 1Arizona’s Fall Festival Season Has Arrived

Arizona’s fall festival season is underway, with pumpkin patches, corn mazes, harvest festivals, and Halloween events running through October across the state. A 2026 guide from a Mesa haunt operator lists a dozen outings in four regions and advises visitors to confirm dates before traveling.

In northern Arizona, Mortimer Farms in Dewey hosts its Pumpkin Fest & Corn Maze, where temperatures typically run about 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Nearby in Clarkdale, the Verde Canyon Railroad’s Ales on Rails pairs Arizona craft beer with scenic four-hour train rides through Oct. 31.

Southern Arizona has its own harvest draws. The Marana Pumpkin Patch & Farm Festival is open Thursdays through Sundays until Oct. 31, offering 70 acres of homegrown pumpkins. In Willcox, Apple Annie’s Orchard features a 12.5-acre corn maze, hayrides, sunflower fields, and weekend pumpkin pancake breakfasts.

In metro Phoenix, Glowing Pumpkins in Chandler lines a mile-long trail with more than 5,000 carved art pumpkins through Nov. 1. The Desert Fall Festival in Surprise also runs through Nov. 1. Scottsdale’s Spooktacular hot air balloon festival runs Oct. 23-25, and Goodyear Ballpark hosts its free Creature Feature on Oct. 24.
