Article Icon 1 Border Patrol Launches New Surge

The U.S. Border Patrol in Yuma will launch a new enforcement operation along Arizona’s southwest border, following last month’s Operation Checkmate that led to 52 arrests.

The new operation builds on recent momentum in the sector and targets ongoing unauthorized crossings in the region, Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Mike Wisniewski said.

The agency’s Yuma sector patrols 126 miles of the border, from the Imperial Sand Dunes in California to the Yuma-Pima County line.

Last month’s Operation Checkmate arrests included 36 illegal immigrant semi-truck drivers, most with commercial driver’s licenses issued by other states and three without driver’s licenses.

Article Icon 1 Crackdown Begins on Guthrie Crowds

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos ordered a crackdown on unlawful behavior in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood where Nancy Guthrie disappeared on Jan. 31.

Nanos cited months of resident complaints about crowds, YouTubers, and true-crime sleuths descending on the quiet neighborhood.

Nanos described some recent visitor conduct as “egregious” and said the department will focus its efforts on habitual offenders.

The crackdown comes as the case approaches the 130-day mark with no resolution. This week, Today host Savannah Guthrie released a video message about missing her mother.

Article Icon 1 Alice Cooper’s Credit Card Returned

A Payson grandfather found Alice Cooper’s credit card at a gas station pump and returned the card, leading to a surprise in-person thank you from the rock legend.

Geoff Guy said he immediately recognized the name on the card, which Cooper had accidentally left at the pump after a golf outing in Payson.

Guy arranged to return the card to the Phoenix teen center that bears Cooper’s name, where he found Cooper waiting to thank him. “Everybody’s lost their card at some point,” Cooper noted.
