Crews battled multiple brush fires across the state, including a fast-moving fire in Buckeye that burned more than 500 acres over the weekend.

Elsewhere, the Dane Fire near Happy Jack burned over 200 acres and was roughly 70% contained as of Friday, with no threat to nearby communities.

A brush fire in Gila County prompted a pre-evacuation alert that was upgraded to an evacuation of Martial Ranch, Sycamore Lane, and surrounding areas near Sleepy Hollow on Saturday night.

In the state’s forests, crews cut dead trees to reduce risk. Foresters report an increase in dead trees because of this year’s dry conditions.

The U.S. Air Force announced plans to keep flying the A-10 Warthog through at least 2030, but not at one of its longtime training homes in Arizona.

At Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, A-10 training is still expected to wind down, with the program maintaining only two active-duty squadrons at Moody AFB in Georgia and a reserve squadron at Whiteman AFB in Missouri.

The limited reprieve for the Warthog follows its recent use in the Middle East conflict, where the plane demonstrated continued value in close air support and rescue missions, military leaders said.

Flagstaff’s newest little library opened inside a restored British telephone booth near the downtown train station.

The booth is stocked with free books and operates on a take-one, leave-one model.

The project, led by Flagstaff photographer Jake Bacon, has been years in the making with support from city officials and residents.

Bacon first launched the concept seven years ago, installing two of the phone booth libraries on his own residential street.
