The driver and passenger survived after their car fell 377 feet off a cliff on Sunday on State Route 88 near Apache Junction, aided by a passerby who climbed down the cliff to help them.

Bystanders flagged down passerby Lenny Marshall, who scaled the cliff to untangle the trapped passenger and stabilize both victims before they were airlifted to a hospital.

The passenger suffered a brain bleed, a broken neck, and a fractured back.

The crash followed a fatal vehicle plunge on Sunday on the same stretch of Apache Trail, amid ongoing safety concerns over the road’s sharp turns and lack of guardrails.

Pima County Sheriff’s deputy Ramon Hernandez was placed on paid leave for alleged social media posts with threatening and disparaging comments about President Trump and Charlie Kirk.

Sheriff Chris Nanos stressed the department does not condone violence and holds deputies to a high professional standard, saying of the allegations, “We are very much concerned.” The Secret Service is also investigating the alleged threats against Trump.

Across the state and nation, employees, including a Scottsdale fitness instructor, face criticism and, in some cases, disciplinary action for social media posts that allegedly celebrate or downplay Kirk’s assassination.

“This is not an attack on the First Amendment. You want to praise an assassination? Fine. But don’t cry when your boss, your school board, or your community finds out what kind of sick, soulless person you really are,” conservative advocate Ryan Fournier said of the cases.

Flagstaff will raise its minimum wage again in January, to $18.35 an hour, sparking concerns from local businesses about the potential impact on their operations.

Some businesses say they are struggling to stay afloat and cutting workers’ hours. A Northern Arizona University study found that past minimum wage hikes contributed to 4,000 lost jobs in the area.

Flagstaff has steadily raised its minimum wage since 2016, citing the rising cost of living. Over that period, the rate has increased by more than $10 an hour.
