Article Icon 1Voting Starts; Gov Hopefuls Debate

Early voting for the Nov. 3 general election opens today, one day after Republican U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs and a minor-party rival took part in the only scheduled governor’s race debate. Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs declined to participate.

Biggs appeared on stage with No Labels candidate Teri Hourihan, highlighting his call for a gradual phase-out of the state income tax and criticism of Medicaid fraud under the Hobbs administration.

You can watch the full debate here.

In other election news, President Trump called Maricopa County “very, very dishonest” after a vendor mailed 3,126 ballots six days early. County officials said the ballots remain valid.

Article Icon 1Taiwan Trade Office Opens

Taiwan opened its economic and cultural office in Phoenix on Monday to help companies expand in Arizona, despite objections from China.

The office is Taiwan’s 14th in the U.S., focused on facilitating investment and trade while offering consular services such as passports.

The new office follows Taiwan-based TSMC’s pledge of an additional $100 billion in computer chip production in Arizona, now up to $265 billion and the largest foreign direct investment in U.S. history.

In September, the Arizona Commerce Authority led a delegation of more than 100 Arizona representatives to Taiwan.

Article Icon 1House Reflects on NIL Case

Former Arizona State swimmer Grant House, the lead plaintiff in the landmark House v. NCAA lawsuit that opened the door to paying college athletes, says his fight is not over.

House said the Protect College Sports Act, which passed the U.S. Senate and awaits a House vote, would block athletes from collective bargaining. The act would establish national rules on athlete pay and transfers.

House became the lead plaintiff in 2020 while training for the U.S. Olympic Trials. Reflecting on his role, he said, “It’s definitely made me a better leader, and it’s definitely changed me for the better on how to lead others and how to stand resilient in times of adversity.”

House’s former ASU coach, Bob Bowman, said he supports the Protect College Sports Act as “a start” to addressing concerns raised by colleges and fans about NIL.

Costa Rica’s Blue Zone Breakfast

Most Americans think eating sweets for breakfast is unhealthy…

But according to Stanford researchers, there’s one delicious “dessert” food that Costa Ricans in the famous “blue zone” there eat each morning that:

✅ Keeps them lean even into their 70s, 80s, and 90s
✅ Slows blood sugar spikes and maintains healthy insulin sensitivity
✅ Keeps their blood pressure at normal, healthy levels
✅ Keeps their hearts and arteries strong and clean well into old age, with a striking lack of heart disease in their population
✅ Even helps them have seven times more centenarians than Japanese people

So what’s the No. 1 dessert food that helps Costa Ricans live healthy, lean, and energetic past 100? (See Report)

P.S. Here’s the surprising part. While Costa Ricans are living longer with this morning ritual, Americans trying it are losing seven pounds in a couple of weeks as a side effect.
