President Trump posthumously awarded Scottsdale resident and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Tuesday at the White House.

Trump commended Kirk’s legacy, describing him as a “martyr for truth and freedom” and a “true American hero,” before presenting the award to his widow, Erika.

Erika Kirk said of her late husband, “He was free from compromise, free from anything that could enslave his soul. He never stopped fighting for people to experience freedom.”

The presentation of the nation’s highest civilian award took place on what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday.

Storms on Monday ripped rooftops from buildings, toppled trees and semi-trucks, and caused power outages affecting over 27,000 residents in the Phoenix Valley.

The severe weather, which included a microburst in Tempe and flooded roads in Tucson, displaced more than 130 residents and scattered debris.

In Globe, heavy rain damaged a main water line, leaving residents without water while crews work to make repairs amid lingering flood concerns.

Officials coordinated on emergency response, shelters, and debris removal to help residents and businesses.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is using forensic reconstruction and investigative techniques in an effort to identify 235 unidentified remains, some dating back decades.

Forensic artist Stephen Missal is part of a team that creates detailed facial reconstructions from skulls and skeletal remains, using tissue depth markers and historical reference materials to approximate the person’s appearance.

On Saturday, Arizona State University’s West Valley campus in Glendale will host a free Missing in Arizona Day event where families can provide photographs, DNA samples, and other information on missing loved ones.
