Article Icon 1  Sentence Upsets Crash Victims’ Family

A judge ordered Malyn Pavolka to receive treatment in a psychiatric hospital after she pleaded guilty except insane to killing five members of the same family in a 2024 car crash in Tucson.

The sentence includes periodic psychiatric reviews that could lead to Pavolka’s supervised release or, if she is deemed dangerous, her transfer to prison.

Some family members said they had hoped she would be sentenced directly to prison, and they vowed to attend all of Pavolka’s future hearings. Other family members said they were upset by the state’s laws governing insanity pleas.

Pavolka, 34, was reportedly off her medication when she caused the fiery collision while driving more than 80 mph.

Article Icon 1State Leaders Clash Over School Vouchers

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said her office plans to sue State School Superintendent Tom Horne after he refused to change how state school voucher reimbursements are reviewed, calling his defiance “unacceptable.”

Horne rejected Mayes’ allegation and accused her of misleading the public, saying that his office follows the state legislature’s guidance to pay first and audit later.

The dispute follows a 12News investigation that revealed that some school voucher funds have been spent on items such as diamond rings, iPhones, lingerie, and theme park trips. Horne said his office has recouped about $600,000 so far.

The voucher program serves 90,000 students.

A dog that survived being shot and lost a leg has been adopted by an Arizona man who lost his arm in a 2024 crash. Watch.

Zack Monticello said meeting Cleo felt like fate.

She’s just the most loving and sweetest, respectful dog I’ve ever encountered,” he said. After picking her up, “she just put her head right here on the shoulder and kept it there for a while. So, I do think she understands we share something.”

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Gary Miller, the supervisor of the office’s Maricopa Animal Safe Haven unit, called the adoption “a match made in heaven.”

Former Zillow Exec Opens Door to $1.3T Market

Austin Allison sold his first company for $120M. He later served as an executive for Zillow. Both companies reached massive valuations before everyday investors could get in.

“I always wished everyday investors could have shared in their early success,” Allison later said. So he built Pacaso differently.

Pacaso brings co-ownership to the $1.3T vacation home market, earning $110M+ in gross profit in under five years. No wonder the same early investors who backed Uber, Venmo, and eBay already invested in Pacaso.

Now, after adding 10 new international destinations, Pacaso is hitting its stride. It even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

And unlike his previous ventures, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company. But you don’t have time to waste. Invest before Pacaso’s opportunity ends on Sept. 18.

This is a paid advertisement for Pacaso’s Regulation A offering. Please read the offering circular at invest.pacaso.com. Reserving the ticker is not a guarantee that the company will go public. Listing on the NASDAQ is subject to approvals.
