Article Icon 1Law School Plan Moving Quickly

Grand Canyon University is moving quickly to open Arizona’s third law school as soon as next fall, following last week’s state Supreme Court ruling.

The ruling allows GCU graduates to seek admission to the state bar while the school’s American Bar Association accreditation is pending. Typically, a school must operate for a full year before it can earn ABA accreditation.

Chief Justice Ann A. Scott Timmer cited a significant attorney shortage in the state and the court’s confidence in GCU’s ability to develop a program.

GCU President Brian Mueller said the school has already named a dean, developed its curriculum, and plans to launch an enrollment outreach campaign starting early next year.

Arizona gas prices fell for a third straight week, yet drivers are still paying historically high prices for this time of year, according to AAA.

Maricopa County drivers are averaging $4.66 a gallon, while Cochise County has the state’s lowest average at $4.44.

Nationally, gas prices ranged from about $3.61 in the cheapest states to $6.17 in California.

Diesel prices in Arizona averaged $6.38 as of Monday, near the record high of $6.44 set Sept. 22. You can check local gas and diesel prices here.

Article Icon 1Suns Aim for All-Star Season

The Phoenix Suns open their 2026-27 season on Wednesday in Portland, aiming to improve on last year’s 45-37 campaign that ended with a first-round playoff loss to Oklahoma City.

The Suns play their home opener Saturday against Golden State. The team will also host this season’s NBA All-Star weekend on Feb. 19-21, including a celebrity game and outdoor festival.

This past weekend, the Suns agreed to a three-year, $29 million contract extension for center Oso Ighodaro, a product of Desert Vista High School in Phoenix.

This year’s roster includes rookie Koa Peat, a product of Perry High School in Gilbert and a standout player at the University of Arizona. “I’m feeling blessed, man. I’m super excited for this opportunity,” Peat said in a recent interview.

Other offseason additions include Miles Bridges and Luke Kennard, while center Mark Williams will miss the start of the season after shoulder surgery.
