Article Icon 1Poll: Biggs Widens Primary Lead

New polling shows U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs widening his lead in the Republican primary for Arizona governor.

Biggs leads U.S. Rep. David Schweikert 48% to 18% in the GOP primary, with 34% of voters undecided, according to Phoenix-based Noble Predictive Insights.

The Republican field narrowed earlier this year after Karrin Taylor Robson dropped out of the race, saying she wanted to avoid a divisive GOP primary.

Arizona holds its primary election on July 21. The winner of the GOP primary will face first-term incumbent Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat.

Arizona Public Service asked state regulators to allow the utility to switch to smaller electricity rate increases each year instead of its traditional larger multi-year rate hikes.

Smaller incremental changes rather than larger hikes every few years are “something that we feel like people could probably budget for better,” an APS executive said.

The proposal is part of the utility’s broader request for a 14% residential rate hike, along with higher rates for data centers and increased fees for some solar customers.

Arizona Corporation Commission members are expected to spend months reviewing the rate case before a final vote later this year.

A Prescott-area woman who survived the World Trade Center’s 1993 bombing and the Sept. 11 terrorist attack is battling a severe autoimmune disorder she thinks may be linked to 9/11.

Jenn Ashcraft, 60, who now lives in Arizona, said her condition recently worsened to the point of requiring antibody replacement treatments.

Currently, autoimmune diseases are not recognized under the World Trade Center Health Program, which provides coverage for many 9/11-related illnesses.

Friends launched a fundraising campaign to help Ashcraft cover medical costs.
