Article Icon 1Family: Missing Camper Found Injured Below Cliff

A woman missing for three days from a Coconino County campsite was found alive at the bottom of a cliff, with a rescue operation ongoing late Monday, a family member said.

Janelle Banda, 32, went missing Friday after going on a nighttime walk near the campsite she shared with her father. The area features steep drop-offs, presenting challenges for searchers.

A searcher who was rappelling near the bottom of Bear Sign Canyon found Banda, who was dehydrated and dealing with an undisclosed injury, the family member said.

No information about the status of the search was immediately reported by authorities.

The Surprise Police Department continues to review surveillance footage and take witness statements to identify and arrest more than 50 people wanted for looting and disorderly conduct at a QuickTrip gas station following a No Kings protest on Saturday.

Members of the group also interfered with access to a nearby hospital, impacting patients arriving for medical care, a police spokesperson said.

“We stand with our local businesses, our healthcare providers, and every resident of Surprise who deserves to live in a safe, peaceful city,” Surprise Police said in a statement.

Article Icon 1Farmer Blames Vaccine Ban for Bird Flu Outbreak

Glenn Hickman, the president of Hickman’s Farms, blamed a federal ban on avian flu vaccinations for the farm’s loss of six million chickens to the virus last month.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture doesn’t allow chicken farmers to vaccinate flocks, as many countries won’t accept meat from vaccinated chickens.

Hickman said the farm uses the birds for eggs, not meat, and should be allowed to vaccinate. “I’ve got 350,000 chicks coming in July and I have no idea what I’m going to do to keep them from getting the virus again,” he said.
