Spring Training Arrives

Major League Baseball pitchers and catchers will report to their Phoenix Valley spring training facilities today as the Arizona Diamondbacks and other Cactus League teams prepare for the 2026 season.

Full squads are set to report over the coming week.

Banner Health’s University Medical Center Phoenix became the first hospital in the U.S. to perform a minimally invasive procedure to repair leaky mitral heart valves.

A golf tournament known for the PGA Tour’s biggest crowds delivered a thrilling finish on Sunday, as Chris Gotterup rallied to beat Hideki Matsuyama with a clutch birdie on the first playoff hole.

An estimate of this year’s crowd size for the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale was not immediately available, but the tournament routinely draws about 200,000 on peak days and more than 500,000 over its four-day run.

Entering the final round down by a stroke, Gotterup surged with five birdies over his last six holes. Matsuyama, a two-time Phoenix Open champion, faltered with wayward tee shots on hole 18 in regulation and the playoff.

The 26-year-old Gotterup has won two of his first three starts of the 2026 season.
