Question: What is half of the world’s zinc used for?
Answer: Galvanizing (coating) steel and iron to keep them from rusting. About half of all zinc produced worldwide goes to galvanizing everything from guardrails and chain-link fences to outdoor nails and metal roofing. The rest goes to alloys like brass, die-cast parts, batteries, and zinc-oxide products such as sunscreen.
