Question: What were Buckeye and Queen Creek’s original names?
Answer: Sidney and Rittenhouse. Buckeye was platted as Sidney in 1888 and replatted as Buckeye in 1910 after residents adopted the name of the Buckeye Canal, which builder M.M. Jackson had named for his home state of Ohio, the Buckeye State. Queen Creek was known as Rittenhouse, named after the railroad siding there, and took its current name as rail traffic faded.
