Question: Where in Arizona is the Painted Desert located?

Answer: Northeastern Arizona. The Painted Desert is an expanse of colorful badlands stretching approximately 150 miles from the eastern edge of the Grand Canyon into Petrified Forest National Park in northeastern Arizona just east of Holbrook. Spanish explorer Francisco Vázquez de Coronado named the region El Desierto Pintado (“The Painted Desert”) in 1540.
