Answer: Lori Ann Piestewa. The 23-year-old Arizonan was the first Native American woman killed in combat and the first female U.S. casualty in Iraq. She was killed in the same March 23, 2003, ambush that led to Jessica Lynch’s capture and nationally publicized rescue.
