Gov. Katie Hobbs announced her 2026 reelection bid on Wednesday, appearing on Good Morning Arizona to outline her plans.

The first-term Democrat said her priorities include affordable housing, education, and water conservation. “While Washington keeps driving up costs and fueling chaos, we’re balancing budgets, lowering costs and delivering real results here at home,” she said.

Republican challengers to Hobbs include U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, Karrin Taylor Robson, and U.S. Rep. David Schweikert. The Republican Governors Association issued a statement calling Hobbs’ record “disastrous.”

Maricopa County voters began receiving election ballots on Wednesday that include Proposition 409, a bond measure that would collect up to $898 million for new and upgraded Valleywise Health facilities.

The bonds would be funded by a property tax increase of roughly 11 cents per $100 of assessed value, or about $44 a year for a home valued at $400,000. Ballots are due by Nov. 4.

The money would go mostly to expand behavioral health and emergency services in the growing area, including adding a new 200-bed behavioral health hospital.

Critics of the measure cite concerns about higher taxes, suggesting private and charitable funding could be used to expand mental health services.

The Arizona Cardinals fined head coach Jonathan Gannon $100,000 for a sideline altercation with running back Emari Demercado during Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans.

The incident occurred after Demercado slowed down during a 72-yard run and dropped the ball just before reaching the end zone, prompting Gannon to confront him. Watch.

The NFL said it will not take further action on the matter, and Gannon later apologized to Demercado and the team, saying, “It’s not really who I am, who I want to be, and I told the guys that today.”
