Article Icon 1Patel and Nanos Clash

A dispute emerged between FBI Director Kash Patel and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos after Patel claimed the FBI was sidelined during the early stages of the Nancy Guthrie case.

Patel said the bureau was “kept out” of the case for four days. He also criticized how DNA evidence was processed, arguing the FBI could have analyzed it more quickly.

Nanos rejected Patel’s claim, saying the FBI was notified immediately and that an FBI agent began working alongside local investigators the night Guthrie disappeared in February.

Article Icon 1Teacher Scandal Divides Board

School board president Heather Rooks was voted out of her leadership role days after criticizing the Peoria Unified School District’s handling of a teacher-student scandal.

The scandal involves two former Centennial High School teachers accused of sexual misconduct with the same student. Prosecutors said they have not determined whether to file any charges pending further investigation.

Rooks said the board vote “seems like it’s a cover-up” after she pushed to investigate whether school officials violated mandatory reporting laws and concealed potential wrongdoing. Though removed as president, she will continue serving on the board.

Board members who voted for the leadership change said the 3-2 vote to oust Rooks was tied to an “ongoing pattern of behavior.”

Scottsdale is set to become home to the world’s largest indoor pickleball facility, reinforcing Arizona’s growing status as a global hub for the booming sport.

The nearly 197,000-square-foot PURE Pickleball & Padel complex will feature 40 indoor pickleball courts, eight padel courts, a 1,200-seat arena, and resort-style amenities.

Developers expect the complex to attract roughly 500,000 visitors annually and host some of the world’s largest pickleball tournaments. The facility is targeted for completion by early 2027.

Arizona has emerged as one of the world’s top pickleball destinations, with Goodyear and Surprise among the top three larger U.S. cities for most pickleball courts per capita.
