Article Icon 1Officer ‘Fighting for Life’ After Shooting

The Apache Junction Police Department identified the officer critically injured during a traffic stop on Monday as Gabriel Facio, saying he is “fighting for his life” after being shot in the face.

Facio “really is just the heartbeat of this department. And it is very, very difficult for our officers right now,” Apache Junction Police Chief Michael Pooley said.

Facio, a three-year department veteran, was one of several officers responding to a road rage incident. A motorist, Roger Nunez, 37, is suspected of getting out of his vehicle and firing a handgun, striking Facio. Four officers returned fire, injuring Nunez.

Nunez faces several felony charges and remained in the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Strong storms brought heavy rain and flash flooding that left several hikers temporarily stranded in the Grand Canyon on Tuesday night. All of the hikers were accounted for with no injuries reported.

Weather officials issued a flood warning just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, about three hours before the hikers became trapped near the Havasu Creek Basin. Up to four inches of rain pelted the basin. Hikers were advised to move to higher ground.

On Wednesday, more flood warnings were issued for Northern Arizona after an early morning rain.

Article Icon 1Major I-10 Project Complete

The largest freeway reconstruction project in state history is officially complete, giving motorists access to more regular and HOV lanes over an 11-mile stretch of I-10 in the Phoenix area.

We’ve crossed that finish line and we can take a moment to enjoy the fact that we did what we set out to do,” state transportation director Jennifer Toth said at a media event Tuesday.

Started in 2021, the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project cost about $832 million and was paid for with a half-cent sales tax dedicated to transportation improvements.

Sharing Homes Made Investors Rich. Sharing Data Could Be Bigger

Remember when people said, “Nobody will rent their homes to strangers”? Early Airbnb investors who ignored the skeptics saw $1,000 grow to $5 million at the company’s IPO.

Airbnb grew to $100 billion by unlocking value in homes, and now Mode Mobile is doing the same with an asset owned by 7 billion people—smartphones.

Instead of renting spare rooms, Mode users monetize their screen time:

  • Over 45 million users earn from everyday activities (games, music, charging)
  • Helped users save and earn over $325 million

And with their Nasdaq ticker ($MODE) secured, you now have a limited time to invest at just $0.30/share.

Here’s how to invest and even earn up to 100% bonus shares.
