Arizona U.S. Sen. Ruben Gallego said he was unaware of any of the allegations against close friend Eric Swalwell and that he “messed up” by trusting the former congressman.

Swalwell, a California Democrat, resigned this week amid sexual assault allegations and misconduct claims from multiple women.

Gallego called a press conference to dispute suggestions he was aware of the allegations, saying he thought only that Swalwell was “just a flirty, social guy.”

“My friendship with him, our family’s friendship together with him, clouded my judgment, and I was wrong. I deeply, deeply regret that,” Gallego said.

A new artificial intelligence tool predicts little relief soon for the 80% of Arizona’s rivers and streams now considered in drought conditions.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s new River DroughtCast tool uses weather data, snowpack, soil moisture, and stream gauges to track and predict streamflow drought across the U.S.

For Arizona on Wednesday, the tool showed 80% of monitored sites are in drought. The percentage is expected to stay near or above 80% through the next three months.

The forecast is considered most accurate for up to four weeks out.

A study found that Arizona ranks among the least affordable states based on incomes versus essential living costs.

The report found that the average Arizona household’s remaining income after basic expenses and taxes is 19.6% of total income, among the lowest in the nation.

Housing and utilities are the biggest cost drivers in the state, up about 59% since 2019, according to the study. Rising costs for groceries, child care, insurance, and gas further strain budgets, the report said.
