New Flooding Prompts Curfew

The town of Globe imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew through Tuesday as the area faced more flooding, two weeks after flash floods killed three people and destroyed buildings.

On Sunday, flooding was reported in Globe’s downtown area. Also on Sunday, emergency crews rescued a man trapped in New River floodwaters.

Ahead of the storms, residents and businesses took precautions by stacking sandbags, digging trenches, and reinforcing structures.

Flooding is the second-deadliest weather event in the U.S., after heat, claiming over 100 deaths annually.

Police Snag Alleged Speeder

Tempe police released footage showing officers using a grappler to stop a Corvette, whose driver was wanted for allegedly filming himself evading police at 142 mph, authorities said.

Officers arrested Mazen Alassmari, 18, on suspicion of felony flight from law enforcement and impounded the car.

The day before his arrest, Alassmari allegedly uploaded a video of a Tempe police officer ordering him to pull over before he sped off, ran multiple red lights, and escaped.

Report: Spending Slows for Most

A report estimates 90% of Arizonans are cutting spending, citing slower wage growth for lower-income workers as a key factor.

Economists with the state legislative Finance Advisory Committee say the slowdown in spending could limit state revenues.

Budget analysts noted the state government also faces more than $100 million in possible food-stamp administrative costs due to program errors and new federal requirements.
