Good Morning! On this day in 1934, Gov. Benjamin Moeur sent National Guard units to patrol the Colorado River shore where California planned to build Parker Dam. This photo shows the construction of the dam in 1938.

Article Icon 1DOGE Cancels 24 Federal Leases 

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) canceled leases for 24 federal buildings in Arizona as part of the Trump administration’s promise to reduce spending. Watch the report.

Included in the lease cancellations are offices for the forest service, immigration review, and Food and Drug Administration. Federal officials said many of the properties are outdated, underused, or unnecessarily expensive to maintain.

In other federal cutbacks, the staff of the U.S. General Services Administration’s field office in Phoenix was laid off. Nationally, the agency oversees the government’s real estate portfolio and contracts. 

Meanwhile, a critic of mass federal layoffs, state Attorney General Kris Mayes, joined with several other state attorneys general in a lawsuit against the Trump administration.

Article Icon 1 227 Charged with Immigration Crimes Last Week

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that 227 people were charged with immigration-related crimes between March 1 and Friday in Arizona.

Most of the charges relate to individuals re-entering the U.S. illegally.

One of the cases involves a suspect who allegedly assaulted a U.S. Border Patrol officer while evading arrest. Another case involves drug and human trafficking charges.

Meanwhile, two New Mexico teens were arrested for allegedly smuggling three migrants in southern Arizona.

Tucson’s Alex Bowman placed seventh. In Saturday’s Xfinity Series, Bowman led for 49 laps before finishing in second place, the best-ever result for a local driver at the track. Watch his finish here.

Sunday’s Shriner Children’s 500 was the final event in three days of racing at the track. Bell outpaced teammate Denny Hamlin during a two-lap shootout. Kyle Larson, the most recent driver to win three times in a row, placed third.
