Article Icon 1Traffic Signal Retiming Continues

Traffic engineers across the Phoenix Valley continue to adjust traffic signals in response to studies showing longer yellow lights reduce crashes.

Two years into the three-year project, engineers have retimed 433 of 872 intersections, with the remaining work set to be completed by October 2026.

The engineers are adjusting the yellow lights to give drivers enough time and distance to react and stop, even if they are slightly exceeding the speed limit.

One of the studies was a 2019 report that found Arizona led the nation in red-light crashes.

AI is booming.

But there’s a growing problem no one wants to admit: our infrastructure isn’t ready for it

The U.S. grid is already stretched thin. In many states, it’s decades overdue for upgrades. Now layer on thousands of energy-hungry AI data centers—and it’s a recipe for blackouts, water shortages, and failure.¹
