Article Icon 1 10 Measures Head to Ballot

Arizona’s 2026 legislative session wrapped overnight Friday with GOP lawmakers sending more questions to November’s ballot in a final sprint.

Voters will see 10 legislative-referred measures, including measures on voter ID requirements for mail ballots, bans on DEI programs, and other previously approved questions. Those include limiting grocery taxes to 2%, banning mileage-based vehicle taxes, and designating drug cartels as terrorist groups.

Another ballot question stems from the session’s sharpest fight, centering on school vouchers. After a compromise with the teachers’ union fell apart, Republicans put a competing school voucher measure on the ballot to block two citizen-led initiatives.

The Phoenix Art Museum received 185 works in the single largest gift of Native American art in its more than 65-year history.

Arizona collector William P. Healey donated the paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculptures spanning multiple tribal nations. Select pieces will go on exhibit starting in August.

Featured artists include Navajo painters Tony Abeyta and Narciso Abeyta, Chemehuevi photographer Cara Romero, and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai.

Museum director Jeremy Mikolajczak called the gift “transformational,” saying it addresses a gap in the museum’s holdings and significantly advances “our commitment to telling a more expansive story of the Americas.”

An Arizona driver clocked at 108 mph on a Valley freeway told troopers she was rushing home to catch the TV show Love Island.

The driver was stopped in a 65 mph zone and arrested.

The arrest is among the latest in troopers’ ongoing spring enforcement surge that has produced multiple 100+ mph arrests across Valley freeways.

Under state law, any speed exceeding 85 mph constitutes criminal speeding, even on highways where the limit is 75 mph. In residential and business districts, driving more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit is sufficient to cross into criminal territory.
