Article Icon 1Workplace Lawsuit Grows Against TSMC

More than 30 current and former employees have now joined a lawsuit against Phoenix’s Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), accusing it of discriminatory practices driven by anti-American bias.

TSMC said it won’t comment on ongoing litigation outside of court filings.

The lawsuit accuses TSMC of fostering a hostile work environment, favoritism toward workers from Taiwan and China, drug use, prostitution, hazardous material exposure, and unwelcome physical contact.

Plaintiffs also allege safety concerns were ignored, including those linked to a garbage truck driver’s death after a tank malfunction at TSMC’s Phoenix site in May.

Video footage shows a driver accused of stealing a water truck leading police on a 33-mile chase between Tempe and Goodyear on Friday afternoon.

Highway officers tried spike strips and other techniques in an attempt to stop the driver, Juan Magdaleno, 25. The chase forced closures on I-10 for roughly 30 minutes.

Magdaleno was arrested after stopping in Goodyear. He faces DUI and flight charges as troopers probe whether he had permission to use the truck.

In 2020, a similar case involved a stolen water truck crashing into a power pole in Avondale.

Toyota is investing $50 million to improve its vehicle testing site in the Arizona desert.

The automaker is upgrading its 12,000-acre Arizona Proving Grounds near Wittman by adding a 5.5-mile oval, an off-road park, and additional test tracks.

Similar to other automakers, Toyota tests in Arizona because the dry heat is ideal for dust trials and stressing cooling systems, A/C units, and trim components.

Since 1993, the Arizona site has been used to help develop more than 50 models. In the future, the automaker plans to build a driver-assistance technology facility at the site.
