Grassroots organizations rallied at the state Capitol against Arizona Public Service’s proposed 14% residential rate hike.

The power utility filed for the increase in June, citing a need to fund grid improvements, power plant maintenance, and reliability measures.

Critics of the proposal include groups representing seniors and veterans, who say energy costs are already straining fixed incomes.

State Attorney General Kris Mayes, who is challenging the increase, will host a town hall on Tuesday in Sun City West to hear community concerns.

Nobody was injured when a stray bullet from the Marana Shooting Club struck the monkey bars at Gladden Farms Community Park in Marana.

The bullet was fired during rifle training by the Sahuarita Police Department, which had been authorized to use the range.

The shooting club closed the area pending a safety review. Local police departments and the state Attorney General’s Office are also investigating.

A Lake Havasu woman who was wrongly listed as dead is now acting as an advocate for others facing the same issue.

In March, a hospital’s name mix-up led to Donna Howard’s listing as deceased with Medicare, triggering a suspension of her health insurance, bank, and retirement plan accounts.

Howard, who spent months getting the records corrected, subsequently launched a Facebook group to raise awareness and push for reforms.

I just went silent trying to comprehend what they were really saying. And then I got mad,” she said.
