Sweet to Elite: Wildcats Advance

The Arizona Wildcats are headed to the Elite Eight after a 109-88 statement win over Arkansas on Thursday night in the NCAA men’s basketball West Region semifinal in San Jose, California.

Arizona led by 11 at halftime and never looked back in the Sweet Sixteen matchup, pulling away with one of the tournament’s highest-scoring performances.

Freshman guard Brayden Burries led Arizona’s attack with 23 points, while five other Wildcats scored at least 14 points.

Arizona next faces Purdue on Saturday, marking the Wildcats’ first Elite Eight appearance since 2015 and a win away from their first Final Four since 2001.

Gun Dealer Charged in Cartel Case

A federal grand jury in Phoenix indicted an Arizona firearms dealer for allegedly attempting to provide guns to Mexican cartels designated as terrorist organizations.

Grips By Larry owner Laurence Gray, 65, of Hereford, is accused of attempting to supply firearms to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel in 2025. A response from Gray or his attorney was not immediately available.

Gray already faces additional charges related to firearms trafficking, including allegedly using straw buyers and falsifying purchase information.

If convicted on the new terrorism-related charges, he faces up to 20 years in prison per count, along with the penalties tied to the original firearms counts.

Yuma Growth Slows as Immigration Drops

Population growth in the Yuma area slowed last year as immigration declined, according to newly released U.S. Census data.

The slower growth—up 1.4% in 2025 compared with 3.3% in 2024—followed stepped-up illegal immigration enforcement under the Trump administration.

A similar pattern was also seen in other U.S. border cities, including Laredo, Texas, and El Centro, California, the Census Bureau said.

Nationally, metro area population gains slowed to 0.6% from 1.1% due to an aging population, lower birth rates, and reduced immigration. The nation’s largest counties reported the biggest slowdown.
