Lightning sparked a house fire near Mount Lemmon on Tuesday, with firefighters battling the blaze for nearly eight hours overnight. Watch.

The fire broke out around 6 p.m. as homeowner John Kraszewski was at the gym, which may have saved his life since the lightning struck his bedroom.

“No one was hurt, that’s the most important part,” Kraszewski said.

Article Icon 1Free Water Stand Sparks HOA Dispute

A Goodyear resident and his HOA remain locked in a dispute over the resident’s free water bottle stand in his front yard.

The resident, David Martin, launched a petition drive in hopes of removing three members of the HOA board, which has repeatedly fined him $100 for keeping a cooler with water bottles in his yard and advertising the free water.

Martin said he seeks to help people cope with the heat, not stir controversy. The HOA said his actions violate a rule that bans owners from advertising and operating such stands “next to their garage that is visible from neighboring property.”
