Article Icon 1Tucson Rejects Data Center

The Tucson City Council unanimously voted to reject the proposed Project Blue data center, citing concerns over the project’s water and energy needs.

The project would have created about 3,000 construction jobs and 75-180 permanent jobs, a water reclamation plant, and about $97 million in tax and fee revenue to the city during its first 10 years, developers said.

Pima County approved the sale of unincorporated land for the project in June.

The proposal called for Tucson to supply water to the project, sparking community resistance despite the developer’s pledge to mitigate the impact.

Gov. Katie Hobbs said state Sen. Analise Ortiz, D-Phoenix, and others shouldn’t be prosecuted for posting location alerts about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and raids.

Republican lawmakers demanded an investigation into Ortiz’s actions, with the president of the state Senate saying, “Public servants have a duty to uphold the law and respect those who enforce it, not undermine them.”

Hobbs acknowledged the alerts raise safety concerns for law enforcement officers, but said that sharing such information isn’t illegal. Ortiz remained defiant, likening the alerts to traffic apps that post police locations.

Article Icon 1Arizona Joins Drug Savings Program

Arizona will join a multistate nonprofit consortium aiming to lower costs for name-brand prescription drugs by 18% and generics by up to 80%.

The ArrayRX program offers uninsured and underinsured residents a free discount card for prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, similar to GoodRx, WellRx, and SingleCare discount cards.

Gov. Katie Hobbs said the initiative gives Arizona “a seat at the negotiating table on drug pricing.”
