Article Icon 1 Plane Crash Kills Two

Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon when their single-engine plane crashed at Marana Regional Airport, the second fatal plane crash in southern Arizona in about a year.

Also on Wednesday, two people survived an emergency landing near the Cave Creek landfill on Wednesday.

In a separate incident the day before, two people were hospitalized after a plane crashed into a home in Fort Mohave.

In Wednesday’s fatal crash, authorities said the Piper PA-32 went off the runway while landing and burst into flames “under unknown circumstances.” The victims have not been identified. According to the FAA, the plane had initially departed from Springerville Municipal Airport.

In February 2025, a mid-air collision at the same airport killed two people, prompting renewed calls for a control tower at the busy, uncontrolled airfield.

Unofficial results from Tuesday’s Salt River Project election show the Clean Energy Team won a majority of board seats while Turning Point Action-backed candidates secured the top leadership roles.

The race highlighted competing visions for Arizona’s energy future, with Clean Energy Team candidates emphasizing renewables and consumer protections, and Turning Point-backed candidates focusing on an “all-of-the-above” energy strategy and economic growth.

Chris Dobson is expected to be named president and Barry Paceley vice president—both backed by Turning Point Action—while Clean Energy Team candidates secured multiple at-large and division seats.

The Clean Energy Team was outspent 10-to-1 in an election that drew unusually high voter turnout.
