Several aging F-16 fighter jets stored at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson are likely being used for parts to benefit Ukraine in its military battle with Russia.

The Department of the Air Force released a statement acknowledging that retired, non-flying F-16s are being used for parts, but didn’t give the location where they are stored.

Davis-Monthan is the Pentagon’s main site for storing inactive warplanes.

On Saturday, photographs captured F-16s getting loaded onto a Ukrainian-owned aircraft.

Engineering students from across the state and world met at the Marana Pumpkin Patch to compete in the Baja SAE International competition last weekend.

The event offered competitors the chance to test their hand-built, single-seat off-road vehicles in a race across rugged desert terrain. Watch the footage.

Everyone thinks of engineering as math and numbers and being stuck behind a computer,” said event organizer Josh Spivey. “There is all that portion, but it leads to all this kind of stuff.”

Students from the University of Arizona and Arizona State University were among the competitors in the four-day event, which also drew international participation from countries like Brazil, Mexico, India, and Canada.
