Grand Canyon Targets Nov. to Restore Water Service

Grand Canyon National Park officials on Saturday released a tentative timeline for restoring South Rim water service after an Aug. 29 flash flood destroyed critical pipeline infrastructure and killed three hikers.

Crews expect to begin pumping from Bright Angel Creek to a new treatment plant by Nov. 16, with water reaching residents around Thanksgiving. Officials cautioned both dates could shift.

Until then, the park plans to truck in roughly 200,000 gallons daily, and Stage 4 restrictions remain. Visitors are asked to bring their own drinking water.

The flood damaged about 40% of the 12.5-mile Transcanyon Waterline, and a second flood Wednesday set back repairs. Remains of the third missing hiker were recovered from the Colorado River this week.

Third Suspect Arrested in Casa Grande Shooting

Casa Grande police announced Friday that 18-year-old Francisco Solano Jr. was taken into custody, the third suspect arrested in connection with a Sept. 14 shooting that injured a 10-year-old girl.

Officers responded around 7 p.m. Monday to reports of gunfire outside the Casa Grande Union High School District office, where they found the girl shot in the shoulder. Court paperwork shows at least 26 gunshots were fired at a vehicle, and the 10-year-old girl was in the back seat when she was shot. At least one gunshot hit the bedroom window of a nearby home while the residents were inside.

Investigators reviewed security video and arrested two boys, ages 15 and 16, on Tuesday. They face dozens of felony charges, including aggravated assault and gang-related firearm offenses.

Police have not released details about Solano’s arrest or his alleged role but they say the three suspects are believed to be members of a street gang based in Guadalupe. The girl has been released from the hospital and is recovering.

Arizona Restaurant Week Returns

Arizona Restaurant Week’s fall 2026 edition began Friday and runs through Sept. 27, with almost 300 restaurants offering prix-fixe menus at $33, $44, or $55.

More than 40 restaurants are participating for the first time, including Nobu in Scottsdale, Perry’s Steakhouse in Gilbert, Windsor in Phoenix, and Lazy Bird Kitchen + Cocktails in Peoria. Most of the participating restaurants are in the Phoenix area, with others in Tucson, Sedona, Prescott, and Williams.

Restaurants typically offer three-course meals with a choice of appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Diners can filter options by cuisine, region, price, and dietary needs on the Arizona Restaurant Week website.

The Arizona Restaurant Association launched the promotion in 2008 to showcase the local dining scene and encourage residents to discover new spots and cuisines.
