Good Morning! On this day in 1864, Prescott hosted what Daniel Ellis Conner described as “the first celebration of the Fourth of July ever had in central Arizona,” featuring the raising of the American flag, a review of troops at Fort Whipple, and a performance of The Star-Spangled Banner.

Exhibit Showcases Arizona, American History

The Arizona History Museum in Tucson opens a new exhibit today tracing America’s story through an Arizona lens, using 26 objects ranging from Geronimo’s rifle to an Arizona Coyotes hockey helmet.

Other items on display include Wyatt Earp’s Colt revolver, a Navajo-made Chief’s-style blanket, and the commemorative pen President William Howard Taft used to sign Arizona into statehood.

Curator Jaynie Adams selected pieces to show, in her words, that “there isn’t one single way to be American.” The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, with $2.50 admission in honor of the nation’s semiquincentennial.

Arizona Boy is Disney’s Billionth Guest

An 8-year-old boy from the Tucson area visited Disneyland for his birthday Friday and became the park’s one billionth guest.

Andres Robles arrived in Anaheim with his parents, Alejandra and Jose Robles, expecting a birthday trip but was greeted with a surprise ceremony on Main Street, U.S.A. Mickey and Minnie Mouse helped the family unveil a sign reading “Population 1,000,000,000.”

The family received a VIP experience for the day, including a tour of Walt Disney’s private apartment and a ride on the newly opened Soarin’ Across America, built for the country’s 250th anniversary.
