A Pinal County land use committee advanced a proposed mega data center complex to the next step in the county’s planning and zoning process.

The panel voted 7-2 to advance the proposal to further rezoning and site plan reviews before any construction can begin.

The La Osa Energy Center, planned on more than 3,300 acres near Eloy, would include up to 59 buildings, gas-fired power plants, and battery storage systems.

The project, one of three reviewed by Pinal County supervisors in November, would eclipse a planned 2,000-acre West Valley data center near Tonopah approved in December.

A fire destroyed one home and damaged two others in Casa Grande on Saturday, displacing multiple families.

Neighbors described the destroyed home as a squatter-occupied property. Authorities said one person who had been living at the property returned in the morning seeking treatment for burns.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Neighbors reported the fire triggered explosions and that flames spread to two other homes.

Crews responded around 10 p.m. to find the house engulfed. They navigated heavy debris, including vehicles, trash, and propane tanks. You can see photos here.
