Rescue teams hiked to the downed plane.

Chandler-based Microchip Technology Inc. plans to lay off the last 63 workers at its Tempe fabrication facility as part of a broader global restructuring.

Earlier this year, the company halted manufacturing at the 500-worker plant and listed it for sale, retaining the 63 employees to maintain the facility and equipment.

The semiconductor manufacturer has since notified the state Department of Economic Security of its plan to lay off those workers.

The layoffs are part of the company’s plan to eliminate 2,000 jobs worldwide.
