Article Icon 1Medicare Scams Ongoing

Seniors across the state face unrelenting phone calls and emails from scammers posing as Medicare representatives, aiming to steal personal information, according to AARP Arizona.

The scams include threats to cancel benefits, offers of fake Medicare cards, and callers impersonating pharmacies.

Experts urge seniors to treat their Medicare number like a Social Security number, verify requests directly with Medicare, and report fraud without embarrassment.

Nationally, the U.S. Department of Justice estimates Medicare fraud drains about $60 billion from the system each year. “This happens every single day, more than we realize,” AARP Arizona state director Dana Marie Kennedy said.

Article Icon 1Study: Gilbert Food Delivery Priciest in U.S.

A 2025 study finds Gilbert is the most expensive U.S. city for food delivery, with the price of ordering a typical four-person McDonald’s meal for delivery costing about 75% more than in-person dining.

The study compared delivery costs in 100 cities, with each order including a Big Mac meal, a Quarter Pounder with Cheese meal, a six-piece Chicken McNuggets meal, and a Hamburger Happy Meal. Here’s how other Arizona cities fared.

In Gilbert, the $51.06 in-person order averaged $90.61 via delivery apps, a 77.5% markup. Across all 100 cities in the study, the same order averaged $62.36. Four of the five least expensive cities are in Texas, with Laredo as the cheapest.

While Gilbert has the highest total delivery price, New Orleans has the largest percentage delivery markup at 237.8%.
