Article Icon 1Attacks Deepen GOP Worries

A nationwide poll taken after the assassination of Charlie Kirk found Republicans souring even more on the future of the country, with only about half in the GOP now seeing the nation on the right course.

Republican voters said that the Sept. 10 shooting death of Kirk, the founder of Phoenix-based Turning Point USA, along with other attacks, including on President Trump last year, deepened their concerns.

Democrats’ view that the country is on the wrong track was largely unchanged at 92%. You can see the full poll results here.

Separately, a study by the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute in Phoenix found that 86% of civics teachers are afraid to teach politically sensitive topics. A decade ago, Arizona became the first state to require high schoolers to pass a civics exam to graduate.

Arizona electric vehicle drivers will soon lose high-occupancy vehicle lane privileges as well as a $7,500 federal tax credit for buying new EVs, which expires Oct. 1.

Arizona now ranks among the top 10 states for electric vehicle ownership with more than 120,000 vehicles registered, according to transportation officials.

The tax incentive will end under the Big Beautiful Bill passed by Congress this summer, with Republicans saying the credit primarily benefited wealthier Americans and did little to curb emissions.

Salt River Project will continue offering EV customer incentives on charging stations.

The University of Arizona women’s triathlon team won its first-ever home meet on Saturday at the Hillenbrand Aquatics Center in Tucson, defeating Arizona State 60-54.

The event drew strong local support, with fans lining the course and pool deck, filling the transition zones, and cheering along the run course.

“Thank you so much, Tucson, for coming and showing up for us. It was just amazing,” said senior Kelly Lyn Wetteland, who led the Wildcats with a first-place finish.
