An estimated two dozen passengers and workers on a light rail train were safely evacuated after the train collided with a tractor-trailer in Phoenix, sending flames nearly 30 feet into the air on Sunday night.

The truck driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and fire crews contained the flames before they could spread to nearby buildings. Watch video of the crash and aftermath here.

The accident cut power to the light rail system, causing track closures and delays while crews worked to clear the scene.

The tractor-trailer was carrying pool supplies.

An injured man was rescued Saturday morning after becoming trapped in Lavender Pit, a historic open-pit copper mine in Bisbee.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team responded to the unidentified man’s call about 1 a.m., and a state Department of Public Safety helicopter from Tucson flew rescuers to the site due to impassable roads.

The man was airlifted to Copper Queen Hospital for treatment.

Hours earlier, the same rescue team had responded to flooding in Benson, conducting a rescue and body recovery.

A 19-year-old man was thrown to the ground by an onlooker and arrested Sunday morning after trampling on items left at a community memorial honoring Charlie Kirk near Turning Point USA’s headquarters in Phoenix.

Police identified him as Ryder Corral.

Witnesses said Corral was wearing a black shirt with an American flag and an eagle that matches the one worn by the suspected shooter in the Utah attack that took Kirk’s life.

Corral was booked into Maricopa County Jail on charges of criminal damage and disorderly conduct.
